Rashaan Salaam + Miles Wilkins Band

Rashaan Salaam was born and raised in Miami, Florida and has been infatuated with

music since childhood. His family is originally from Trinidad and Tobago, so calypso and soca music were early influences. Salaam’s grandfather was a violinist and a pianist. However, he passed away exactly a year before Salaam was born. After years of studying piano, Salaam transferred to trombone. Being introduced to masters such as Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and J.J. Johnson changed his life forever. Salaam inevitably found New York and knew this was the place for him to thrive musically, but knew it took work to make a career in the Big Apple. Salaam is on his musical journey, and we’re excited to see what his future holds.
